when a location has a “T” next to it, that means it’s on/around telegraph between dwight and bancroft. when people say “it’s up on telegraph,” this is the four-block strip they’re usually referring to.

2. arizmendi, 3265 lakeshore, 4301 san pablo - collectively-owned bakery with good coffee and pastries, daily pizza made from organic everything.

4. café gratitude, 27th and harrison (inside whole foods) – raw vegan restaurant counter. the “grateful bowl” is sliding scale...
5. cam huong, 920 webster - tofu or vegetarian sandwiches for $2.50.
6. cha-ya sushi, 1686 shattuck – all vegan sushi. not cheap, but worth it.
7. the cheeseboard, 1504 shattuck - see "arizmendi."
8. cinnaholic, 2132 oxford – all vegan cinnamon roll shop. fucking incredible, your teeth will hate you.
9. cole coffee, 307 63rd - this coffee will fuck you up. awesome.
T. c.r.e.a.m., 2399 telegraph – two fresh baked cookies with a scoop of ice cream in between. the vegan one rules. insert clever wu-tang joke here.
10. donut farm, 6037 san pablo - pepple’s donuts, available at cole, subrosa, whole foods, etc. and also here at their bakery. sunday brunches are “meh.”
11. fellini, 1401 university - vegan and regular brunch on the weekends, daily dinner. they use vegan only pans. expensive enough to be considered “fine dining.”
12. flaco’s, 3031 adeline – vegan mexican food. taquito tuesday and taco thursday are the best! great horchata and salsa.
13. golden lotus, 1301 franklin – decent vegan vietnamese food. worst service imaginable.
14. gordo’s, 2989 college, 1423 solano - mainly "standing room only" burrito and taco shops. quick and easy.
15. great wall, 6247 college - standard vegan/veg chinese food. cheap lunch specials. they also serve seafood.
16. herbivore, 2451 shattuck - decent vegan restaurant. kinda fusion cuisine.
17. lanesplitter pizza & pub, 2033 san pablo, 4799 telegraph, 3645 san pablo - 2 slices of vegan pizza and a soda for $6.50. punk friendly with good beer.
18. long life vegi house, 2129 university - see "great wall."
19. mama buzz café, 2318 telegraph - art gallery/showspace/coffee shop. good sandwiches, free wifi. this is where burning man people and art school kids get their morning fix.
T. maoz, 2395 telegraph – falafel bar, international chain, endless refills as long as you’ve still got pita and you can stomach the green walls.
20. nabolom bakery, 2708 russell - see "arizmendi," preface with "anarchist-," and add a good selection of vegan, wheat-free, and gluten-free items.
21. no worries, 1442 franklin – all vegan filipino restaurant.
22. pizza plaza, 6211 shattuck - entire vegan pizza menu. pricey. corn meal crust. some people love it, but I am not one of them.
23. revolution café, 1610 7th – the one place to get coffee near a good chunk of the punk houses. occasional shows.
24. saturn café, 2175 allston – “american” food, basic diner-y stuff. open late. vegan milkshakes!
T. smart alec’s, 2355 telegraph - regular and vegan burgers, with fries and soda and shit. They call it "healthy fast food."
25. souley vegan, 301 broadway - vegan soul food, as good as you’ve heard. homemade juices.
26. subrosa, 419 40th st – great coffee to fuel your record perusing at 1-2-3-4 two doors down. they carry pepple’s donuts.
27, T. top dog, 2534 durant, 2503 hearst, 5100 broadway, 2160 center, 499 14th - their veggie dog is vegan. 'nuff said.
28. vik’s chaat house, 2390 4th st - cheap indian sweets and samosas, big food plates, great for lunch.
MUSIC STORES:
29. al lasher's, 1734 university - weird hours, but worth it for oddly specific old parts for your amp or home stereo gear.
30. best music, 1716 broadway - all instruments, not just "rock band" stuff.
31. leo's pro audio, 5447 telegraph - if you're fixing your own band gear, this is where to buy the parts. plus they run a pirate radio station out of the back!
32. starving musician, 2474 shattuck - tons of used gear, cheap strings, cool pedals, knowledgeable staff with surly attitudes. cool.
GROCERY STORES:
33. berkeley bowl, 2020 oregon, 920 heinz - amazing produce selection, everything else is insanely overpriced.
34. koreana plaza, 2370 telegraph – asian grocery store that’s really cheap.
35. layonna’s, 443 8th - vegan/veg asian fake meat market, read labels very carefully. recommended: vegan goose liver. seriously.
36. monterey market, 1550 hopkins - weird organic products and decent produce.
37. pak n save, 3889 san pablo - you know safeway? this is where they sell their overstock: cheap and generic groceries, sketchy produce.
38. trader joe's, 5700 christie ave, 3250 lakeshore, 1885 university, 5727 college - the necessary evil, with four locations to serve you!
39. whole foods, 3000 telegraph, 230 bay pl. (27th and harrison) – see “trader joe’s,” but there’s only two.
PARKS:
40. adventure playground, 160 university - hippies building play structures out of found materials for little kids. hop the fence at night.
41. berkeley skate park, 1100 4th - large bowl and street course, unmonitored, and only four blocks from gilman.
42. codornices park, 1201 euclid - concrete slides! b.y.o. cardboard if you like your pants having an ass on them.
43. indian rock park, 950 indian rock - it's a big fucking rock you can climb on. awesome sunset view
44. the landfill/albany bulb, where buchanan meets the bay - give hippies a landfill for thirty years and see what weird art shit they make. highlights: the bicycle graveyard, the castle, merlin’s hut. set aside an entire afternoon and expect to get lost in it.
45. lake temescal, 6500 broadway – local swimming hole. relax and barbeque. park on the street so you don’t have to pay.
46. middle harbor shoreline park, west end of 7th - see the shipping container loaders that george lucas based the "at-ats" from star wars on while "sitting on the dock of the bay."
T. people’s park, between dwight and haste above telegraph - where winos nap, cal students play basketball, and high schoolers get ripped off on weed. note: ***this is where food not bombs is served weekdays between two and three in the afternoon.***
47. tilden, grizzly peak blvd - go for a hike, or swim in lake anza. hella nature, dude.
48. town park, 1651 adeline – outdoor wood skate park in west oakland, volunteer built and run!

49. 924 gilman st. - 24 years and counting! all ages, drug and alcohol free, volunteer run, nonprofit show space. up the punx.
50. 99 cent store, 1440 7th, 1941 san pablo, 2440 shattuck - fuck it, why not? besides, insanely cheap canned goods.
51. abandoned train station, 16th & wood - exactly what you think it is. watch out for the security guard: he's in a black sedan and is armed.
52. biofuel oasis, 1441 ashby - biofuel gas station. the best resource for your hippie van.
53. the dark carnival, 3086 claremont – they specialize in fantasy, sci-fi, and general nerd-dom. great rare books and weird shit you didn’t know existed.
54. east bay depot for creative reuse, 4695 telegraph - every kindergarten teacher's wet dream. need 40 jewel cases, a giant ball of red yarn, and thirty-year-old issues of national geographic? this is your jam. happy rummaging!

T. moe’s books, 2476 telegraph – my favorite book store in the bay area. awesome used selection and super nice folks.

59. rock paper scissors collective, 2278 telegraph - buy affordable art and handmade goods here. they also offer classes in everything from screenprinting to photo developing.
60. urban ore, 900 murray - wanna buy a used toilet? maybe a metal cabinet? go to this warehouse filled with tons of salvaged shit. awesome way to kill a few hours.
61. ashby flea market, ashby and adeline (sat/sun) – basically a rummage sale in the bart station parking lot. free.
62. laney flea market, 7th & fallon (sunday only) - $1 entrance fee. old records, barbequed corn on the cob, and every tool imaginable.
63. missing link bicycles, 1988 shattuck - collectively owned bike shop. repairs and used shit at the annex across the street. super friendly and knowledgeable.
64. bent spoke bikes, 6124 telegraph - cheap bike shop.
65. recycles bike shop, 3120 sacramento - cheaper bike shop.
66. manifesto bike shop, 421 40th - punk friendly bike shop for the "fixed-gear enthusiast." small shop, nice folks.
T. 510 skate shop, 2500 telegraph - the best skate shop in the east bay. they also have a high-end "collectible" shoe store across the street next door to upper playground.
alcohol is sold seven days a week in california from 6am to 2am and you can buy it in grocery stores.

67. acme, 2115 san pablo - punk bar with decent jukebox, pool table, and pinball.
68. the albatross, 1822 san pablo - bar with huge selection of board games and dart alleys. favorite of college students. avoid on friday/saturday during the school year.
69. beer revolution, 464 3rd st – beer bar with lots of taps of things you won’t find anywhere else. next door to souley vegan!
70. commonwealth, 2882 telegraph – euro style beer pub with good coffee, always watching soccer.
71. eli’s mile high club, 3629 mlk – punk bar with pool table and delicious fries. dj nights and regular shows. tattoo shop upstairs. gross, I know.
72. merchant's, 401 2nd - punk/hipster/scumbag bar in skeezy warehouse district. go for a drink, stay for a lifetime.
73. missouri lounge, 2600 san pablo - punk/hipster/"motorcycle enthusiast" bar with pool table. cool dj nights.
74. pyramid brewery, 901 gilman - "yupscale" microbrewed beer is made on location, across the street from gilman.
75. ruby room, 132 14th – hipster/punk bar. pool table. indoor smoking room.
76. stork club, 2330 telegraph – punk-ish bar with occasional shows.
77. takara sake factory, 708 addison - tours with tastings.
78. triple rock brewery, 1920 shattuck - favorite of college kids and beer snobs.
bart is to get from point "a" to point "c" when you're just trying to get to "b." every trip costs different amounts of money, there are no reliable scams, and there's no "weekend pass" or anything, so plan accordingly. stops running around midnight.

(exit off of 880) goes underneath the freeway, behind the texaco station – the super veggie burrito is so big they use two tortillas, and you can hold it between your palm and upper arm. $7.50 for two meals in one. i'm not saying you can't finish it, i'm saying you shouldn't.
lucky juju pinball museum, 713 santa clara, alameda - from webster and 7th, go southwest on webster through the tunnel. come out on an island city, known for being where rockabillies go to start families. turn left on santa clara, and then left into the first parking lot. $15 gets you unlimited plays on a rotating collection of classic, restored, and current pinball machines. open from 2pm to 12am on friday and saturday nights, 2pm to 9pm the rest of the week, closed on mondays.
